Barnes & Nobles is the only real local bookstore I can attend with WiFi available in Vancouver, WA, so I thought I’d stop by there to chat with a client. While on the phone, I was browsing the internet section, looking up some new skills or brush-ups on my nest eggs. I came across a very useful book that I need to share with you as a must-buy for anyone looking to understand what goes into getting on the first page of Google.

Norman wrote a fantastic book concerning everything SEO concerning Google, from link building and how PageRank works to using webmaster tools effectively. I even learned a bit about third-tier linking that I hadn’t considered. The best part about this book is that it includes screen shots of each tool.

One thing to consider when buying a how-to book on Google is that Google likes to change things up every fiscal quarter. Something will change in the time you buy a book and finish learning about Google, but the great thing here is that you get to learn the basics, the advanced analysis, and why Google places people where they do in search results. This will most likely not change as fast. I consider this book one of the best get-it-going toolboxes in print right now.

Some of you may say, “Well, I’m not a reader. I like to get my hands dirty.” I promise you, this book is less text and more visuals, which should be easy to follow along with as you are logged into your Google account. As well, it’s color scheme and page layout make it easy to skip to the page you need if you already know the basics.

My suggestion: grab this book, take a week and go cover to cover. Then re-read the parts you’re still stuck on. By the end of two weeks, you should be able to plan your ranking campaign with meaningful strategies.

Or, at the very least, it makes my job easier so you know what I’m talking about.
